The appearance of the nose can be given for genetic reasons or be altered by trauma or previous surgeries. This surgery seeks to achieve facial harmony by modifying the proportions of your nose, which represents the visible center of the face. In some cases, surgical intervention must be performed due to functional failures such as ventilatory alterations.

In this intervention we can improve the size, shape, profile, tip (when it is large or bulbous), nasal passages (large or wide), asymmetry or nasal deviations.

Although in most cases there will be no visible scar (closed rhinoplasty), it must be taken into account that certain cases of significant nasal deviation require more complex rhinoplasties with an open approach and a small scar at the base of the nose.

Surgery

At Fernández Medical Center we do not seek exaggerated changes and we prioritize preserving the patient's identity. Rhinoplasty should always be performed in a clinic or hospital operating room setting and can be performed under local or general anesthesia depending on the complexity of the surgery. Local anesthesia involves numbing the area and with general anesthesia the patient is asleep during the intervention.

The new one arrived at CMF ultrasonic technology which allows the bone to be molded without the need for fractures due to blows or hammers. The device shapes the nasal bone without injuring any other tissue. This promotes faster recovery, less incidence of bruising and greater definition of details.

The surgery can last up to two hours depending on the case and basically consists of resection of excess cartilage and bone (hump or nasal dorsum) and modifications of the cartilage of the nasal tip for a more aesthetic result. In some cases it may be an open rhinoplasty with a small incision in the anterior region to address more complex cases.

After surgery

During the first day the patient may feel slight swelling, discomfort and a “stuffy nose”. You should remain at relative rest with your head elevated. Some bruising and swelling may appear around the eyes for up to 2-3 days. Rest and use of cold compresses are recommended. Thus the swelling and bruising will disappear in about 2 weeks. It is important to mention that residual edema can last for months almost imperceptibly. The cast and the healing must be respected during the first week with minimal care and the patient can (generally) return to work in a few days.

Post-operation recommendations

-Do not touch healing

-Relative rest

-Do not blow your nose

-Do not drink mate

-Cold compresses

-Do not do physical activity

-Do not sunbathe

-Caution with glasses

When we see results

Patience during the first days is important. Not mobilizing the cast and rest help the rhinoplasty progress. As the cast and tape are removed, the edema continually decreases. In 1 or 2 weeks you will not look like you have had surgery and mild nasal tip edema may remain for a few months. The final result is observed after one year. To accelerate recovery at Fernández Medical Center we have post-operative ultrasound and lymphatic drainage treatments that will help reduce edema more quickly and effectively. Thanks to the treatment ULTRASONIC You return to your usual life much faster.

Surgical time: From 1 to 2 hours.

Anesthesia: According to the surgeon's discretion, under general anesthesia or with local anesthesia and sedation.

Hospitalization: Ambulatory.

Duration of results: Definitive. After 2 – 3 months, an approximate idea of the final result can be obtained, which cannot be correctly evaluated until one year after the intervention.
