What is breast augmentation surgery?
Enlarging the size of the breasts is one of the most requested surgeries today and consists of the placement of specific implants according to your needs and desires to project them and achieve a balance in your body figure. Whether due to lack or loss (pregnancy, breastfeeding) of breast volume, the implants will be placed behind the gland or muscle depending on each patient. These implants can also be used in post-mastectomy reconstructive surgery.
If a lift is needed (due to sagging or ptosis of the breast), a treatment called Breast Pexia will be offered, which may or may not be accompanied by implants.

Are there contraindications?
In patients with an active infection or blood coagulation disorders. Also, those patients who are undergoing oncological treatment must resolve their pathology before undergoing surgery.

Pre-surgical care?
Dietary regulations, cessation of tobacco, taking medications or iron supplements if necessary will be taken into account. With the pre-surgical studies approved, the surgery can then be scheduled.

What does it consist of and what is the procedure like?
It consists of placing silicone implants behind the gland or behind the muscle depending on each patient and particular case.
We know how important the location of the scar is to the patient. Therefore, according to the indication and joint decision, the approach to the intervention will be determined. This may be sub-mammary (below the breast), lower hemi-areolar (below the areolar complex) or axillary (in the anterior axillary line).
The duration is approximately 1:30 hrs and local or general anesthesia depending on each case.

What is the post-operative period like? It is painful?
After the intervention, the feeling of tiredness and discomfort is common, which decreases as the days go by. The prescribed medication and
Correct care of the bandage and dressings will help a better post-operative period.
The stitches are removed after 7-14 days and the edema usually decreases over the months.
Return to work (depending on the patient) will be indicated weeks later, avoiding raising your arms and making efforts. It is important to note that the operation will not limit your ability to breastfeed if you become pregnant. At CENTRO MÉDICO FERNÁNDEZ we have a lymphatic drainage system and post-operative ultrasound in the post-operative plan that will help facilitate the elimination of edema and lead to a sooner definitive result and with less inflammation.

Surgical time: Approximately 1 hour and a half.

Anesthesia: Sedation and local or general depending on the case.

Recovery: 4 to 7 days.

Duration of results: Over time, it may be necessary to replace the prosthesis.
